Curriculum vitae

Born in Tabor, Czechoslovakia on 5 October 1975, Jan Farlík completed his secondary education in Automate Technology at the Secondary Electrical Engineering School in Brno. He served the conscript military duty at long range surveillance unit deployed in Kromeriz and then in Prostejov. After the conscript service, he graduated from Military Academy Brno in Automated Command and Control Systems field in 2000. In the period 2000–2008, he served at the Control and Reporting Centre (CRC) in Stara Boleslav with the appointments from a team leader to CRC weapon systems group chief officer.

Since 2008, he has worked for the University of Defence in academic positions within the Faculty of Military Technology starting with senior lecturer for the Air Defence Systems Department through team leader within the department, head of the department to Faculty vice-dean for external relations and development (2020-2024).

He completed his doctoral studies in Technical Cybernetics and Mechatronics field at the University of Defence in 2012. In 2020, he met all requirements of the habilitation proceedings to receive the academic degree of “docent” which approximately equals to associate professor. He achieved the international evaluator certificate of TACEVAL programme that evaluates the air force units of all Alliance member countries. As the certificate holder, he participated in a number of multinational Alliance exercises and could establish international contacts and implement the learnt lessons in teaching the students. He attended several special courses and trainings including almost a year-long “Air Defense Captains Career Course” held in Texas, USA. In 2019, he completed the “General Staff Course” arranged by the University of Defence.

Colonel Farlík was elected by the University of Defence Academic Senate the candidate rector on 24 April 2024 and appointed the rector-commandant of the University of Defence by the President of the Czech Republic on 27 June 2024 for the period from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2028.

Colonel Jan Farlík is married, father of two children.
